HISTORIC SIGN POLE
Capitol Records Tower
1750 Vine St.
Designed by Welton Becket and Associates, this 13-story building was designed to resemble a stack of 45 rpm records. It was the world’s first circular office tower when it debuted in 1956. It soon became a Hollywood landmark. The recording facility includes eight echo chambers engineered by guitarist Les Paul and three main studios: A, B, and C. The musical luminaries who have recorded here include Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Dean Martin, the Beatles, and the Beach Boys. To this day, the rooftop beacon still flashes “Hollywood” in Morse code.
