HISTORIC SIGN POLE
Hillview Apartments
6531-6535 Hollywood Blvd.
When the Mediterranean-style Hillview Apartments opened in 1917, actors were considered unreliable tenants by many landlords, with some area boardinghouses warning them away with signs that read “No actors, no dogs.” This was not the case at The Hillview, and as such, it served as a much-needed place to live in Hollywood for those in the film industry. Actress Mae Busch, of Laurel and Hardy fame, once resided here. It was built by movie mogul Jesse L. Lasky with Douglas Fairbanks as an investor.
