HISTORIC SIGN POLE

Hollywood Center Building

6650 Hollywood Blvd.

An excellent example of Art Deco and Zigzag Moderne architecture opened around 1927 at this location. Complete with intricate wrought iron grillwork, the building was home to the nationally famous Hirschfeld’s apparel store. In 1935, the Albert Sheetz Circus Café, a glamorous underground cocktail lounge-restaurant, opened with the hopes of attracting celebrity union members visiting the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). SAG had its first home on the building’s second floor and was located there from 1933-1936 along with the offices of the Writers Guild.
